Our Nursery
Springfield Nurseries is a family business begun in the mid - 1970's. It is now run by my son Liam and myself.
We are located on the south coast of Ireland. The nursery is on the renowned fruit soils of West Waterford.
Apple trees have been our speciality from the beginning. Initially we grew trees for commercial apple growers but gradually changed to producing apple trees for home gardens.
We produce our own rootstocks, bud or graft the trees and bring them to maturity. Normal apple trees are sold as two-year-olds. Coronets are held for five years to develop the miniature features associated with this premium product.
The Owner - Dr Pat McDonnell
Took a degree in horticulture at University College Dublin.
Specialised in apple studies at Cornell University, New York.
Worked in apple research in Ireland for thirteen years.
Founded Springfield Nurseries in the mid - 1970's, Springfield Nurseries is now the premier fruit nursery in Ireland.
